How do you manage your bipolar I?

Gabe

I think one of the things that people don’t understand about the treatment of bipolar disorder is it is not one size fits all. It’s not magic.

Christine

I did my research on it. I learned about medications, therapy, treatments, the differences between highs and lows. And I made an appointment with a specialist to try to stable myself out.

Margaret

I usually tell my psychiatrist anything that I’ve been going through, no matter how minuscule it is, it might not be minuscule, like, it might be a factor into your diagnosis.

Gabe

When you get really good at managing your emotions or moods and you know what to look for, you can start to see little things around you. Like maybe you’re eating more or maybe you’re eating less. Maybe you’re sleeping more, maybe you’re sleeping less. And all of these things kind of give you an idea that maybe something’s up. And then you’re going to want to get that to your doctor. You’re going to want to get that to your medical team. You’re going to want to get that to your support system and work it out before it becomes a problem.

Christine

The doctors can actually help you manage.

Margaret

Bipolar is manageable and it’s something you can live with. It’s treatable.
